51 Points for Domestic Vastu:

    1. White and a fragrant plot of land is considered to be the best for Brahmins to reside at.
    2. Red and an astringent plot of land is said to be auspicious for Kshatriyas, political leaders, army and police personels.
    3. Green or yellow and a sour plot of land is said to be favourable for businessmen, commercial places and financial institutions.
    4. Black and a bitter plot of land is not considered to be favourable. It is meant for the Shoodras.
    5. Sweet, plain, fragrant and a hard plot of land is suitable for building.
    6. A plot ofland is not considered to be auspicious if ants, termites, pythons, bones, clothes, ashes, burnt wood and iron are found under it while digging.
    7. Slope towards north or east is said to be favourable. Slope of the roof should be in north east corner.
    8. Tall buildings, mountains, hillocks or trees to the south or west of a plot of land are considered to be auspicious.
    9. A river or a canal either east or north of a piece of land flowing towards north or east is considered to be auspicious.
    10. An underground source of water, a well, a pond or a deep well with a flight of stairs to the surface of water situated north, east or north east corner of a plot is said to be auspicious.
    11. A plot between two bigger plots is not said to be auspicious.
    12. A buikiing between two bigger buildings is not considered to be favourable.
    13. A rectangular, circular or a Gomukhi plot of land is said to be auspicious in Domestic Vastu. On a circular plot, the building too should be circular in shape.
    14. A Sihamukhi plot is said to be auspicious for commercial Vastu.
    15. Expansion of the plot towards north, east or north eastern corner is auspicious.
    16. Paths on north or east to the plot are auspicious.
    17. Paths south or west to a commercial place are said to be useful.
    18. A temple, pillar or a ditch in front of the building is not considered to be auspicious.
    19. A basement should not be constructed under a residential plot.
    20. If essential, a basement should be built in north and east keeping the Brahma Sthan intact.
    21. The height of the basement should be 9 feet and 3 feet above the surface. So that the sunlight and air might come to it.
    22. A well, boring or an under ground reservoir or cistern can be built north, east or north eastern corner of the plot. But none of these should be built at vital spots (Marmasthala) of Vastu Purusha.
    23. The height of the ceiling of every storey should be of 12 feet. It must not be less than 10 feet.
    24. The southern portioil of the building should always be higher than the northern.
    25. The western portion of the building should always be higher than the eastern.
    26. South-West of a building should always be higher than the others and North-East should be the lowest.
    27. Main gate of the building should be built in east for Brahmins. north for Kshatriyas, south for Vaishyas and west for shoodras. This should be done by going through an 81-Pada Vastu Chakra.
    28. Height of the gate should be double its width.
    29. Verandah should be to the north or east of the building.
    30. Windows should be built preferably to the north or east of the budding and south and west should be avoided as much as possible.
    31. Brahmasthana should be kept open, clean and airy.
    32. In construction, 9 blocks are allotted to Brahmasthan in 81-Pada Vastu Chakra.
    33. Land should be kept open in east inside the boundary more than the other directions. In north it should be less than that of the east, in west less than north and in south it should be kept open less than all the other three directions.
    34. Wall in the south should be thicker than the other three directions, in west less than that of the south, in north less than west and in east it should be less than all the other three directions.
    35. Pooja room, well, boring, garden, children's room, underground water reservoir, verandah, living room, drawing room and basement can be built in the north- eastern corner of the building.
    36. Bath Room, basement, Verendah, well, garden and Poop room can be build in the east of the building.
    37. Kitchen can be built and electric meter, generator, inverter and main switch can be installed in the South East of the building.
    38. Main bedroom, store and staircase can be built and large trees can be planted to the south of the building.
    39. Bedroom, store of goods, items heavy and not to be used much, staircase, overhead water tank and toilets can be built in south .vest of the building.
    40. Dining room, staircase, study, bedroom and lavatory should be built and large trees can be planted to the west of the building.
    41. Guesthouse, bedroom for the unmarried girls, weeping room, living room, drawing room, staircase, granary and lavatory can be built in the North West of the building.
    42. Well, pond, garden, Pooja room, underground vault, reception room, treasury and living room can be built to the north of the building.
    43. Heavy goods should be kept in the South, west or South west of the building.
    44. Small things of the house should be kept in north, east and north-eastern corner of the building.
    45. Tenants or guests should not be given place in the South West of the building.
    46. Head rest should be in east or south while sleeping. (Now here is some difference-- one should keep one's head-rest towards east while sleeping in one's own house, while at in-laws' one should keep head-rest towards south and towards west while in an alien land but north is strictly prohibited for one's head-rest.)
    47. One should sit facing north in the day while one goes for excretion of faeces, whereas in night one should sit facing South.
    48. There should be no large statue in Pooja room. Two Shivlings, three Ganeshas, two Shankhas, two idols of the Sun, three idols of Devi, two Gomati chakra and two Shaligrams should not be kept.
    49. One should take one s meals facing always towards east or north.
    50. Pooja room, toilets and kitchen should not be built under the staircase.
    51. Safe in the house should face north.
